Strong Commitment to Aviation: Hesse Signals Support for Competitiveness and Growth at Aviation-Event Sounding Board Frankfurt am Main, 19 April 2026

At the Aviation-Event Sounding Board in Frankfurt, the Hessian Minister for European Affairs underlined the strategic importance of aviation for the regional, national, and European economy.

The discussion emphasised that aviation is not only about global connectivity, but also a key pillar for Frankfurt as a leading aviation hub and for Germany’s position within Europe.

A major milestone is approaching with the opening of Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport next week. As one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects, delivered on schedule, the new terminal reflects a strong commitment to long-term capacity growth and the future of aviation.

In light of increasing global competition, the Minister stressed the need to strengthen the competitiveness of the European aviation sector. Key priorities include reducing air traffic taxes, cutting bureaucracy, and improving framework conditions for airlines and industry stakeholders.

“The challenges are significant, but so are the opportunities. We must ensure that aviation in Germany and Europe remains competitive on a global scale,” the Minister stated.

The year 2026 also marks the 100th anniversary of Lufthansa, highlighting the long-standing strength and global reputation of German aviation.

The State of Hesse reaffirmed its strong support for the continued success of Frankfurt Airport operator Fraport, Lufthansa, and the wider aviation ecosystem.

The Aviation-Event Sounding Board once again provided a high-level platform for dialogue between policymakers and industry leaders, focusing on the future development of air transport in Europe.
