Building more competitive and resilient African airports
According to Ali Tounsi, African airports face a central challenge: improving performance while strengthening resilience in an increasingly demanding environment.
Infrastructure financing, pressure on charges, connectivity, revenue diversification, digital transformation and climate adaptation will be among the key issues shaping discussions in Abuja.
“The discussions will focus on a central issue: how to improve the performance of our airports while strengthening their resilience in an increasingly demanding environment.”
“Africa can no longer wait”
Tounsi also emphasises the need for African aviation to take a more decisive role in shaping its own future.
“Africa can no longer wait for the future of its aviation to be decided elsewhere! Abuja must mark the transition from ambition to action.”
He highlights the importance of building more efficient and resilient airports while attracting investment, stimulating connectivity and strengthening aviation’s contribution to African development.

Marcel Riwalsky, CEO of Aviation-Event, highlights the wider opportunity:
“What makes the African aviation market particularly important is the scale of its potential. The discussions in Abuja will be an opportunity to look beyond individual challenges and understand where airports, investors and industry partners can work together to turn that potential into sustainable growth.”
